Our Mission

We Foster Connections To Combat Elderly Isolation

MentorMeGlobal is an interactive, international platform dedicated to tackling the pervasive issue of elderly isolation by connecting senior citizens locally and globally with empathetic and socially conscious high school volunteers via video calls and in-person meetings. Our mission is to address and diminish senior citizens’ isolation in today's fast-paced world. Through our innovative platform, seniors sign up for 30-minute to 1-hour video or in-person sessions, and enjoy brain-stimulating activities, share daily experiences, provide wisdom and guidance to our teens from the lives they’ve lived (elevating their feelings of value and relevance), and receive technical assistance on digital technology that can help them feel connected. Simultaneously, teens learn about the values, problem-solving techniques, and struggles that older generations faced—reminding students that many of life’s challenges are ever-green—not limited in applicability to a particular generation. We foster relationships that bridge those generational divides. By pairing our young volunteers with seniors, we not only combat isolation but also facilitate knowledge exchange between generations.

How it Works

Your Volunteering Begins With These Five Steps

Rethinking assumptions

In a world crowded with assumptions, it’s vital to pause and reconsider. Our senior citizens are reservoirs of wisdom and experience in areas such as love and loss, educational opportunities, emotional challenges, economic volatility, health crises, bias, and exclusion. We should open our doors to learn from their wisdom and tried and true ways of coping with “new” problems.

“ I am very grateful ”

Volunteering with MentorMeGlobal has been an eye-opening experience for me. I've learned so much from my buddy/mentor, Mr. Johnson. Our conversations range from his experiences during the civil rights movement to helping him navigate social media. It's amazing how much wisdom and perspective he brings to the table. I'm grateful for this opportunity to connect with someone from a different generation and make a real difference in their life.

“ Awesome Impact ”

As a retired English teacher, I've always valued the power of learning and sharing knowledge. MentorMeGlobal has given me the chance to continue that passion in a whole new way. My chats with my young mentee, Ethan, are like a breath of fresh air. We discuss literature from different periods and I teach him how to write argumentative and descriptive narratives for school. It's heartwarming to see how much he appreciates my background and mentoring, and I love learning from his youthful perspective. This program has truly enriched my life.

“ Gives me lot of courage ”

Being a part of MentorMeGlobal has been a game-changer for me. After losing my husband last year, I felt so isolated. My children live on the other side of the country, and I don’t always feel connected to this generation. But now, thanks to this wonderful program, I have a newfound sense of connection and purpose. My chats with my young buddy, Emma, are the highlight of my week. I teach her about fashion trends from the 1940s and the brutal stories of WWII and she gives me her perspectives on today’s youth and politics! It's truly rejuvenating to be able to share perspectives with a teen and feel so valued.

ear Shirley,I want to take Accutane because I feel humiliated by my cystic acne. I can tell it’s affecting how people view me. The problem is that my parents are afraid of medical side effects from Accutane that might stay with me for a lifetime. What should I do?

ear Shirley, I love my friends but on Saturday night they always end up bringing liquor to our get-togethers. I have decided not to hang out with them on Saturday nights because of that. Now that they know I don’t want to drink with them, I feel like they are edging me out of our friend group. What should I do?
